5. Short Description¶
Practitioners stand in a natural and stable upright position. The feet are placed approximately shoulder-width apart in a neutral standing stance corresponding to shizen-tai or a slightly open heikō dachi. The body remains upright with relaxed shoulders and the gaze directed forward.
On the instructor’s command, the hands are placed at the sides of the belt by lightly holding the obi near the hips.
This position is used to gather the group before the warm-up begins and to establish a common starting point for the sequence of movements that follows.
For this reason, the position is not a physical exercise in itself but rather an organizational starting posture for the entire Jumbi Undō.
6. Purpose¶
The purpose of the starting position is to:
- establish correct posture before movement begins
- focus the practitioners mentally and create readiness
- create a clear transition from lineup to training
- allow the instructor to check the group’s posture before the warm-up starts
In Kyokushin training methodology, discipline in posture, starting position, and unified rhythm is emphasized before the actual training begins.
Comments¶
Terminology
The term Jumbi Undō Kaishi Shisei is used here as a technical description (starting posture for warm-up). In actual dojo practice the position is normally introduced only through verbal instruction rather than being treated as a named exercise.
