On command, the hands are placed at the sides of the belt (obi), lightly holding it at hip level.

This position serves as a common starting point before beginning Jumbi Undō and establishes structure before movement.

Purpose

  • establish correct posture
  • create focus and group alignment
  • mark the start of the warm-up
  • ensure a consistent starting position

Key technical points

  • upright posture without tension
  • stable base
  • gaze forward
  • relaxed shoulders

Comment

This position is not a physical exercise in itself, but an organizational starting stance. In regular dōjō practice, it is typically not named as a technique, but given through instruction.
