Jumbi Undō 35¶
1. Name of exercise¶
Hanpo hiraite sayū shōtei undō
(Diagonal alternating upper body movement)
2. Romaji instruction¶
Hai, hanpo hiraite.
Sayū ni ugokashite.
Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyū, jū.
3. Translation¶
Open to a half-wide stance.
Move side to side.
One to ten.
4. Counting¶
Ichi – Ni – San – Shi – Go – Roku – Shichi – Hachi – Kyū – Jū
5. Short description¶
The practitioner stands in a wide stance.
A diagonal rotational movement is performed:
- bend and rotate the torso
- one hand reaches toward the opposite foot
- the other arm extends upward
The body forms a diagonal line.
The movement alternates side to side rhythmically.
6. Purpose¶
The exercise aims to:
- improve spinal rotation and lateral mobility
- stretch hamstrings and lower back
- activate shoulders
- improve coordination between hips and upper body
- prepare for rotational techniques
