1. Name of exercise

Te no kō awasete undō (from above → from below → shake)
(Back-of-hand pressing exercise)


Terminology

  • Te no kō = back of the hand
  • Awasete = bring together
  • Focus on extensor side of the hand

2. Romaji instruction

Hai, hidari sanchin dachi.

Hai, te no kō awasete.
Ue kara.

Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyū, jū.

Hai, hantai.
Shita kara.

Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyū, jū.

Hai, te o futte.
Hai, naore.


3. Translation

Left sanchin stance.

Bring the backs of the hands together.
From above.

One to ten.

Reverse.
From below.

One to ten.

Shake the hands.
Return.


4. Counting

Ichi – Ni – San – Shi – Go – Roku – Shichi – Hachi – Kyū – Jū


5. Short description

Performed in hidari sanchin dachi.

The backs of the hands are pressed together.

First phase:

  • pressure applied from above

Second phase:

  • pressure applied from below

Hands are then shaken to release tension.


6. Purpose

The exercise aims to:

  • strengthen the extensor muscles of the hand
  • balance palm vs back-of-hand strength
  • improve wrist stability
  • increase circulation
  • prepare hands for impact

Complements the previous palm-based exercise.
