Translation

Left sanchin dachi.

Bring the backs of the hands together.
From above.

Counting

Ichi – Ni – San – Shi – Go – Roku – Shichi – Hachi – Kyū – Jū


Description

The exercise is performed in hidari sanchin dachi.

The backs of the hands are brought together in front of the body.

First phase:

  • pressure is applied from above (ue kara)
  • the backs of the hands press firmly together

Second phase:

  • the movement is performed from below (shita kara)
  • pressure is applied from a lower position

Throughout the exercise:

  • elbows remain relaxed
  • shoulders stay loose
  • pressure is constant

After completion, the hands are shaken out.


Purpose

  • strengthen the extensor muscles of the hand
  • balance palm vs back-of-hand activation
  • improve wrist and finger stability
  • increase circulation
  • prepare hands for striking and blocking
