Jumbi undō in training

Jumbi undō (準備運動) means preparatory movement. In Kyokushin it is more than a general warm-up: it is a structured transition into training in which the body, posture, attention and movement control are prepared for what follows.

Function

Jumbi undō helps the practitioner gradually increase range of motion and load, establish balance and posture, and focus attention on shared training. Its fixed order also develops the ability to follow instruction and maintain a common rhythm.

Its training value therefore lies both in the individual movements and in the sequence as a whole. Speed is secondary to control, correct direction and maintained structure.

In the technical system

The exact Kyokushin sequence, its principles and exercises 00–42 are documented in Jumbi undō in the Technical Library. That is the technical reference; this page instead explains why the sequence matters as training.

Jumbi undō prepares the body for kihon, idō, kata, kumite and physical loading. Skipping preparation to reach the "real training" faster therefore removes part of the training system itself.

Progression

Development appears as better control at end ranges, more stable balance in dynamic movements, calmer breathing and the ability to complete the whole sequence with sustained attention.
