Kihon as a training method
Kihon (基本) is systematic training of fundamental technique. Repetition is used to develop posture, balance, movement path, power transfer, breathing and the ability to return to a stable position after each technique.
Repetition with purpose
Repetition is not a goal by itself. It should make execution clearer and more economical: less unnecessary tension, more stable hip action, better alignment and a more consistent finish.
Kihon can be trained stationary and in movement. When the same technical principles enter Idō geiko, balance and structure are tested through stepping, acceleration and changes of direction.
From foundation to application
Kihon provides the raw material for kata and kumite. This does not mean an isolated basic form is identical to application; it means that effective application needs a stable technical base.
The complete Kyokushin reference for Kihon geiko — system position, principles, structure, sequence and techniques 01–31 — is in Kihon geiko in the Technical Library. This page instead treats kihon as a training method.
Progression
Progression appears when technical quality survives increases in speed, repetition count and fatigue. The foundation is not replaced; it is refined.
